On October 24, 2013, SDA along with various other student organizations, including Student Organic Garden Association (SOGA), the Local and Berkeley Student Food Collective (BSFC), joined the Food Day celebration–for healthy, sustainable and affordable food–put together by the wonderful people from Cal Dining and Eat Well Berkeley!
On Food Day, various local vendors, including the probiotic drink KeVita and UCB-Alumni-started Back to the Roots, gave out samples and tabled to share their sustainable businesses.
BSFC also ran a “Students’ Farmers’ Market” and sold produce and other snacks and drinks to hungry people at the event. The Cookie Department also donated over 200 cookies via BSFC for all to sample! SOGA and SDA also tabled beside them
SDA tabled to promote Eat Well Berkeley with the stickers we made and had people take the UC Eats Real Pledges. (Go to their Facebook page and Like if you haven’t already!)
Eat Well tote bags that Jackie generously gave to SDA, and “I Pledged Eat Well Berkeley” Stickers, designed by our Professional Development Co-Chair Kristen!
BSFC, SDA and SOGA also worked together to create a Cal Food Day Collage for Cal Students’ favorite foods!
Although it wasn’t quite full, Thank You to all who expressed their creativity and love for healthy, sustainable food!
Ida also hosted a pumpkin/squash cooking demo similar to the one with SDA last year! Such Deliciousness and Warmth with the butternut squash soup in the cold weather… I still liked the Squash+Yogurt with Toast the best though!
For entertainment, we had UC Jazz Ensemble and Decadence acapella performances!
